Harrington Brothers Attain New Milestone
Heading into the 2023 season with Cathedral Catholic, Alex and Hunter Harrington had lofty expectations.
As Perfect Game USA All-Americans and Division-I prospects in three different sports, the Class of 2026 Harrington twins generated headlines when they both committed to Stanford before even entering high school.
Alex Harrington, who slapped a two-run inside the park home run which helped catapult No.6 Cathedral to a 5-1 victory over No.10 St. Augustine, was recently named a finalist for the prestigious National Freshman of the Year Award.
Known for their athleticism and high level bat speed, the Harrington brothers added a new feat to their pedigree with a Western League Championship.
They are the only ever freshmen to win a Western League Championship in program history.
With stratospheric upside, the Harrington's play during a heavily anticipated freshmen season at Cathedral cemented their status as prominent five-tool talents.
They will shoulder more of the leadership mantel as sophomores next season, flushed into prominent roles and helping fill the void created by a number of seniors who are slated for June 2023 graduation.While Alex Harrington continues to enhance his national profile, Hunter Harrington has displayed the type of ball-tracking skills and knack for dazzling catches only rarefied athletes are capable of.
The San Diego-bred brothers continue to ascend the rankings.
Alex Harrington is the number one player in the 2026 class in the country, Hunter is currently No.9 in the state, according to Perfect Game California.
Hunter Harrington is known for his fleet of foot and twitchy, explosive athleticism, aspects which will soon translate to the gridiron, as he is a wide receiver on the football team at Cathedral.
Hunter Harrington has garnered national visibility for his quickness on the base paths, as he earned The Fastest Man award by Perfect Game USA.
Alex Harrington is a quarterback at Cathedral, which is widely known for a high powered offense.
The 6-foot-2 dual threat is known to make plays with his arm and also rip off tackle-breaking runs, as he displayed both aspects during his freshman season last fall. In football, the tandem was offered by Princeton and UPenn back in January.
The twins are just getting started, as they will soon entertain a hothouse schedule which criss-crosses the country and simultaneously gauges their grit against national top-shelf teams.
In June, Alex Harrington will resume his role at shortstop and Hunter Harrington at center field for the Canes National Team.
The elite team, which is slated for a handful of tournaments in Perfect Game and PBR action, will entertain a Southern swing which includes stops in North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
